The farm of Jakob and Ada Koren is situated in Hayogev village near Haifa in northern Israel.
In 1984 Jacob and Ada Koren took over the farm from Jakobs parents and continued the farm with the same motto as their parents: "Hard work and dreams". In keeping with this motto they have built up the farm, on which today they cultivate 50 hectares land with a 662,000 litres milking quota. The family fattens their own male calves and the total herd of currently 150 heads, which are fed with their own TMR (the milking cows are fed with PMR). The tailor-made concentrate is bought from a nearby feed mill.
In December 2007 they started milking with the Lely Astronaut A3. Of course, 2008 was an exciting year; the Korens were very curious about their milking results. As it turned out, these results were stunning: in their first year with the Astronaut milking robot they achieved: 13,088 KG PCM (source: Israeli herd book 2008) which meant an increase of no less than +984 KG in the year 2008!
Furthermore, the fat content in the milk increased from a percentage of 3.57 in the milking parlour to 3.72 when milking with the Lely Astronaut milking robot. The protein content of the milk has grown from a percentage of 3.23 in the milking parlour to 3.38 for the Lely milking robot. Therefore the fat-protein rate also increased which concludes healthier cows. Finally, Somatic Cell Count decreased with more than 40,000 per ml.
Lely congratulates Ada and Jacob on these results and wishes them all the best for the future!
