1. Dynamic feeding and milking
Education: Bachelor
Period: September 2009 tot December 2009
Skills: Excellent skills on Excel and SPSS
Location: 75% at the office in Rotterdam, 25% on farms
Description: Lely introduced dynamic feeding and milking with the launching of the Astronaut A3 next milking robot. Currently, we are carrying out field experiments to gain more insight about the effects and results of dynamic feeding and milking. Therefore, we are looking for a student to collect data and to work with the already gathered data.
2. Milk settings
Education: Bachelor
Period: Starting December 2009 or January 2010 for at least three months
Skills: Excellent skills on Excel/SPSS, knowledge of milking equipment
Location: 75% at the office in Rotterdam, 25% on farms
Description: The Lely T4C management programme is collecting lots of data of individual cows. In addition to that, the milking robot is provided with setting information from T4C. With regard to the milking module, Lely has gathered knowledge on all topics. To get new insights and to develop different ways of working with the milk settings, we have set up / are setting up practical experiments.
3. Profitability on dairy farms
Education: Bachelor
Period: Starting November 2009 or December 2009 for at least four months
Skills: Excellent communication skills, skills on Excel/SPSS
Location: 75% at the office in Rotterdam, 25% on farms
Description: Because of the current economic situation, farmers are striving for decreasing costs and improvement of farm results. Lely wants to support farmers by the development of their business. Therefore, we are looking for a student to analyze data of farmers. The whole project needs to be set up from the beginning.
4. Fertility on robotic farms
Education: Bachelor
Period: Starting between January and March 2010 for at least three months
Skills: Excellent ‘research' (writing) skills
Location: office in Rotterdam
Description: Does the fertility on robotic farms differ from the fertility on conventional farms? We suppose that there is no difference. Does the reproductive management on both types of farms differ? Because of these questions, Lely wants to carry out a project on fertility. Biggest part of the project is consisting of a desk research and the collection of relevant data.
5. Robot capacity
Education: Bachelor
Period: Starting between January and March 2010 for at least four months

Location: 75% at the office in Rotterdam, 25% on farms
Description: On robotic farms is the capacity of the robot and robot output really important. To get new insights on the use of robot capacity and influencing factors, we want to start a project. This project focuses on the relationship between several robot parameters, for example free time, number of cows to collect etc. The whole project needs to be set up from the beginning.
6. Lely Juno Feed Pusher
Education: Bachelor
Period: Starting between September and November 2009 for at least four months
Skills: Excellent communication skills, skills on Excel/SPSS
Location: 75% at the office in Rotterdam, 25% on farms
Description: In October 2008 Lely has introduced the Lely Juno Feed Pusher. The Lely Juno pushes the feed to the feed fence as often as required without disturbing the cows. Frequent feeding results in an increased feed intake and higher milk production. In addition, frequent feeding has a positive effect on the cow's health. This project focuses on the results of customers that started working with the Lely Juno. Therefore, we are looking for a student to analyze data of farmers. The whole project needs to be set up from the beginning.
7. Feeding strategy
Education: Bachelor
Period: Starting between September and November 2009 for at least four months
Skills: Excellent communication skills, skills on Excel/SPSS
Location: 75% at the office in Rotterdam, 25% on farms
Description: Lely is convinced that optimal herd results can be achieved by paying full attention to the individual cows. The cow herself is the actual production unit providing data which can be used to optimize her ration. Research is done for continuous improvement. This project focuses on a specific feeding strategy. Therefore, we are looking for a student to analyze data of research.
