Placement Year at Lely Atlantic
During your time with Lely Atlantic, we will be looking to engage and encourage a student into the business with an strong introduction to automation, engineering and the dairy sector. You will be shown how to use your knowledge gained at university to engage with our products and how they relate to end users, working as part of the team with our customer base. You are encouraged to experience all aspects of the business, hands on experience with our machines on farm, participating in weekly meetings, to delivering and reporting on live projects. You will also gain a commercial awareness and work transparently with colleagues and clients, varying across the UK and Ireland. You will learn to proactively and effectively communicate ideas, both verbally and in formal report format.
You will be exposed to a range of projects, whether they be technical, sales or commercially based. Although you will have freedom to work autonomously, full support and mentorship will be provided by colleagues in each department. You will be working as part of the commercial team and will be invited and encouraged to participate fully as a team member, gaining an understand of all aspects of the business and the ability to develop knowledge of marketing, finance and distribution channels as well as your engineering foundations.
Entry Requirements
We are looking for a candidate to have an intrinsic interest and intuitive understanding of engineering, backed up with the beginnings of an academic theoretical knowledge base. We are looking for a student who understands engineering from first principles, and who is now looking to develop first-hand knowledge. The candidate must be of a get-up-and-go attitude, showing perseverance in the face of difficulty. Strong communication skills, as you’ll be working amongst vary levels of seniority and technical knowledge. Someone looking to develop a well-rounded skill set in a commercial setting, working with different departments and a range of projects.
Capabilities/ Qualities
- Working towards being a Degree qualified Engineer (FdsC and above)
- Willing to travel within Europe (UK and Ireland with Headquarters in Netherlands)
- Good presentation and reporting skills
- Good research and data gathering skills
- Strong communication skill both verbally and written
- Ability to work autonomously and within a structured team
- Positive and can do attitude
- Experience with full Office Package
