Welcome to Whittingham Hall Farm! The Dewhurst family has been farming here for generations, currently milking 180 pedigree Holstein cows. Recently, we made a big leap forward by installing four Lely A5 robots, replacing our 13-year-old parlour, to make dairy farming more enjoyable and efficient.
As Michael Dewhurst explains, “We wanted to make life easier for both the cows and ourselves.” The old parlour wasn’t just inefficient – it made milking uncomfortable for both cows and workers. With the new robotic system, cows are happier, and milking is smoother, reducing stress and increasing productivity by three liters per cow on average.
“We now have more time for family and less reliance on outside help, which has been a huge benefit,” adds Michael, reflecting on the improved work-life balance.
