David Millar farms in partnership with his father, finishing c. 600 beef cattle per year. In the lead up to 2020 the Millars were balancing the running of two farm enterprises and looking for a solution to the labour of feeding across 3 beef buildings. Previously David Millar spent three hours feeding animals three diets with a trailered forage wagon. David was drawn to the fact the Vector fed little and often and could be pre-programmed to deliver multiple rations to different pens.

Since installing a Lely Vector, not only is labour no longer a problem, but days to slaughter have been cut by 10 - 14 days and daily running costs have been slashed.

“It wasn’t conducive to feed four rations inside one shed using the diet feeder, but now I could feed 16 if I wanted to - With the Vector, every animal gets the same feed because there is always fresh feed available.”

Feeding is now more accurate, growth rates are improved and cattle are more even. He now has a c. 22% higher throughput of cattle per year.
