Initial situation and facts

  • This study included more than 1.380.000 cows from more than 13.000 dairy farms in the Netherlands.
  • The period studied is the MPR milk control year 2020.
  • All Lely Astronaut milking robots were compared with all other brands of milking robots and all types of milking barns.
  • All results below are significant, with a confidence interval of 95-99%.

Conclusion
Dairy farmers with a Lely Astronaut milking robot achieve higher milk, fat and protein production. The results show that dairy farmers with a Lely Astronaut realize on avarage 4,0% more milk compared to the other brands of milking robots and even 9,6% more compared to milking parlours. 

The total number of kilos of fat and protein is on avarage 3,1% higher than for dairy farmers with another brand of milking robot and on avarage 8,3% higher than dairy farmers with a milking parlour.

With 100 cows and € 0.348 per kg milk, the difference with other automatic milking systems is € 13,000 and € 29,200 compared to milking parlours.

Conclussion 
Dairy farmers with a Lely Astronaut milking robot achieve a higher lifetime production (kg of milk) at removal and produce more milk per day of life on avarage.

Conclusion
Despite a higher production, there is hardly any difference in the fertility results.
