Ian and Carmen Comins installed their robots in 2018 where they converted their old 10 aside herringbone shed to a Lely Robotic milking system. They first installed one robot and later in 2020 installed a second one, where this has allowed them to milk up to 110 cows.
Ian had always had a robotic system on his mind as he works away from home a lot.
Ian and Carmen farm here on 29ha milking approx. 110 mixed breed cows. With a medium farming, system input averaging 450 m/s per cow. They utilise a pasture management system – where cows alternate between three races, every 8 hours cows are sent automatically via a three race way system called – ABC .
Setting up their robotic operation has added a positive impact on their lives; they require less labour and happier cows relaxed and friendlier doing their own thing at their own pace.
They have currently transitioned to our new management software platform called Lely Horizon. So during the open farm day you can ask them all about it.

Perfectly suited to pastoral milking systems just like we have here, automating your milking means less labour costs and leads to more efficient milk extraction and animal knowledge.
