Lely started a ‘red cow community’ to celebrate the milestone of as many of 100 new partnerships. The partnerships have been built across countries such as Canada, Japan, USA, Germany and Turkey thanks to the proven success and experience of large herd management through the Lely Dairy XL concept.

Lely has recently celebrated the milestone of as many as 100 new partnerships globally on large dairy farms with over 500 cows. To reward these customers for their efforts and partnering we have started a ‘red cow community’. New partnerships have been built across the globe in the countries of Canada, Japan, USA, Germany, Turkey, Italy, Baltic States, UK and Sweden due to the proven success and experience of large herd management through Lely’s Dairy XL concept. In the last 18 months, this trend has proven to Lely that the large progressive dairy segment is confident in the Dairy XL concept for their future growth.
The Dairy XL team supports dairy farmers all over the world that wish to automate and grow in the future. With this recent growth, the Lely projects within Dairy XL have doubled over time. By connecting people, cows and technologies together, we help large progressive dairy farms to produce the best possible quality and quantity of milk in the most efficient way possible with the right attention for individual cows. The Dairy XL concept can be applied for both new projects as well as retrofitting existing barns.
Efficiency demands a brighter and different way of farm management. It’s no longer about duplicating the same, or working harder, nor about upscaling alone. It’s about efficiently applying the available and diminishing resources, like land and water, to ultimately meet an increasing demand for food from a growing global population.
Coert van Lenteren, from Lely’s global specialized Dairy XL team, explains: 'Especially for large businesses, it is more than just about automating milking; it is the way in which the business is managed. Over time our customers have learned that Dairy XL was not just about labor reduction. Farm automation and data enables the workforce to do the right action on the right cow at the right moment. So they have learned, that it is especially about a longer longevity of their animals, reduced cull rates and about more heifers to sell.'
In a customer video Dale Hemminger from Hemdale farms describes: ‘We went to a barn where it’s the cows world. Instead of managing them every 8 hours, we now take our cows as starting point.'
