Project Summary: More than doubling the herd size

Mursu Dairy is a 3rd generation farm. From milking in a 100-year old barn, their new barn construction and milking system in 2012-2013 was an amazing transition.

Goals:

  • Minimize physical labor
  • Gain daily reprieve
  • Milk 3x a day

2013, built new facility with:

  • 2 Lely A4 Robots
  • Lely Juno Feed Pusher
  • Schaefer Cross-Ventilation Fans
  • Feed Bin & Augur System
  • Manure Pump
  • Sand Bedding

Results:

  • More than doubled the herd size
  • Reduced Somatic Cell Count (SCC)
  • Improved milk production
  • Flexibility with plenty to do
  • Less labor, easier on joints
  • Cow comfort
