Brendan Greene farms with his Dad and Uncle in Dysart, Co. Laois, Ireland on a 41 acre block with another outblock of 60 acres closeby. Brendan and his family began considering moving from beef to dairy in 2018. He began his research by milking cows in New Zeland for 3 months to really see if he liked it. Brendan had also previous experience on a robot farm after working on his neighbour’s dairy farm. He enjoyed conventional milking but wanted the flexibility of the robot so they could continue with their tillage and contracting enterprises. The family sold their beef stock to convert to dairy and installed the Astronaut A5 in February 2020. Becoming the 2,000th Astronaut customer across the UK and Ireland.
Brendan advises anyone considering upgrading their milking parlour to consider robots and talk to farmers who have them. "Keep an open mind and see as many robotic farms as you can before you decide.
