Lely Astronauts
Robert Coburn, a dairy farmer in North Tipperary, Ireland, has been milking a 330-cow herd using five Lely Astronaut automatic milking robots since December 2025. Karl Traynor, a dairy farmer from Ballybay, Co. Monaghan, is milking an 82-cow herd with a single Lely Astronaut automatic milking robot while also working off-farm full time. With a strong focus on grazing management and maximising robot efficiency, Karl shares his experience of operating a grass-based robotic system, comparing grazing with robots versus a traditional parlour setup.

Richard McGrath, a dairy farmer from Loughmore, Co. Tipperary, milked cows in a traditional parlour for 45 years before transitioning to an A5 Lely Astronaut milking robot in February 2025. Now milking a 70-cow herd, Richard shares how cow yields have increased since the installation and how the strong technical support and back-up service gave him the confidence to make the switch from parlour milking to robotic technology.
