Robert Coburn, a dairy farmer in North Tipperary, Ireland, has been milking a 330-cow herd using five Lely Astronaut automatic milking robots since December 2025. In this three-week start-up recap, Robert reflects on his journey from entering dairying in 2012, through years of herd expansion and growing labour challenges, to ultimately investing in robotic milking as a long-term solution to secure the future sustainability and work–life balance of the family farm.

Richard McGrath, a dairy farmer from Loughmore, Co. Tipperary, milked cows in a traditional parlour for 45 years before transitioning to an A5 Lely Astronaut milking robot in February 2025. Now milking a 70-cow herd, Richard shares how cow yields have increased since the installation and how the strong technical support and back-up service gave him the confidence to make the switch from parlour milking to robotic technology.
