How Lely makes cows walk
Lely developed the ABC grazing principle more than 15 years ago, which continue to be utilised today for our pasture-based systems worldwide. ABC grazing sees the farm allocated into three separate grazing sections, encouraging cows to walk voluntarily, motivated by fresh grass.
The Lely free cow traffic system is managed via the integration of the Lely Astronaut and Lely Grazeway, which allows cows to independently navigate around the farm. This allows cows to exhibit natural behaviours and the farmer to optimise their grazing rotation.
As part of the Lely service, your local Lely Center will create a start-up and cow training program, specific to your farm and your needs. This process is made even easier due to the exclusive I-Flow design of the Astronaut, allowing the cow to have clear, unobstructed access in and out of the robot.
Lely focuses on designing a free-flowing system that allow cows to move easily into the dairy, get milked, and return to the paddock with ease. A clear, easy to navigate pathway through the robotic system, from start to finish, is critical to a successful design.
The Lely Astronaut milking robot encourages cows to return for milking by offering a feed reward during each visit. As the Lely Astronaut allows up to four different feed types, plus a liquid, the farmer has the ability to create an individual feed ration for each cow.
