Lely Center Ayr

“Everybody liked the cows, but nobody liked milking. The robots have given us much greater flexibility to share staff across enterprises, and cows are treated as individuals, not a herd.”

“The combination of grazing and robotic milking has not only maintained production but helped drive it forward. Overall, the herd is easier to manage, and the system gives us greater control and flexibility than before.”

Yields have went from 28 litres and we are now up at 40 litres!

“Grazing and robotic milking work brilliantly together on our farm, delivering happier cows, improved production, better protein levels and excellent herd health”

"Since installing the slurry collectors on our farm, we have seen an improvement in cow and cubicle cleanliness and cases of mastitis decrease"

I would definitely recommend dairy automation to anyone thinking about it, the flexibility would be my main advantage. Not necessarily less staff but more flexible approach to the working day with my staff. You aren’t tied to a specific regimental regime; you can focus on larger jobs on a day-to-day basis or spend more time with your family. The cows are less stressed, allowing them to have free access to milk, feed or rest.

We still spend the same amount of time with the cows; however we have a more flexible lifestyle, we have the flexibility, especially in the Spring & Summer months when we are required to be getting on with field work

The Lely automated farming system on our farm has given us increased yield, happy, healthy cows, and the flexibility at the time to attend all my son’s school, sporting, and social events – watching them grow into the young men that they are today. It’s the robots that have given me that precious time. Lely Center Ayr provides an excellent service; they have a great team of engineers in the Dumfries & Galloway area. Having robots now for over 14 years, it’s the best decision we have made on the farm.
