Valorising emissions
Our circular barn system Lely Sphere valorizes nitrogen emissions by converting them into a liquid, circular fertilizer. The system also separates the urine with potassium and the faeces with organic nitrogen and phosphate. These three types of fertilizers can each be used for optimal fertilisation of soil and crops, exactly where and when needed. This improves closing the mineral cycles on the farm.

The Discovery Scraper, introduced in 2005, is designed for slatted floors and automatically removes manure by scraping it through the slatted floors, helping to keep floors cleaner and drier throughout the day.
For closed barn floors, Lely invented the Discovery Collector, which was commercially introduced in 2016. This mobile, manure‑collecting robot vacuums manure and transports it to a dump station, offering flexibility and consistent cleaning with minimal barn adjustments.
Manure scraper robots operate autonomously using sensors and predefined routes to navigate through the barn while cleaning floors consistently. Solutions like the Discovery Scraper and Collector are designed to work in tight spaces, allowing them to move easily under sorting gates, and between cows. They reach practically every corner of the barn. This ensures thorough cleaning across the entire barn, including hard-to-reach areas, without disrupting daily farm routines.
The Lely Sphere system manages nitrogen emissions by separating urine and feces as quickly as possible and capturing ammonia directly at the source, under the barn floor. The system converts the captured ammonia into a liquid nitrogen fertiliser, which can be reused on the farm.
