See Robotic Milking in Action at How End Farm

Two years on from starting their robotic milking journey, the Swainson family are achieving an additional 1.3 million litres from their existing shed. Milk sold is up 37% while still maintaining milk solids!! With the herd currently averaging 40 litres per cow and producing 14,000 litres a day across six robots, come and see how the team at How End along with Lely Center Longtown have designed a system that makes the most of their existing building footprint while preparing for the future.

The farm now runs with:

• 6 x A5 Astronaut automatic milkers
• 2x Lely Discovery Scraper

Creating the right environment has been central to their success. The shed layout is designed for efficiency and cow flow. Tandem separations and an innovative extension allow cow traffic to move smoothly around, while creating new space for separation and feeding. One Astronaut is dedicated to fresh cows and heifers, maximising time efficiency in the shed. Alongside this, the Astronaut robots collect health and production data that allows the family to stay ahead of issues with the mindset that prevention is better than cure.

The addition of the Discovery Scraper is also a vital part of the system, it works night & day keeping cow comfort & cleanliness to the highest level, along with reducing lameness risks.
