Celebrating the 50,000th Astronaut

The most experienced milking robot worldwide

Celebrating the 50,000th robot!

1992 marks a moment of true revolution for dairy farming, the first working prototype of a fully automated milking system. It represents a whole new way of milking and working. It is therefore no suprise that dairy farmers consider this the most important invention of the 20th century for dairy farming. Now, 31 years later the 50,000th Astronaut automatic milking system will be installed.

Customer Testimonials

Garnett, Ethel and Gary Liggett - Carrowbeg, Eglish

1 x A4 robot, 1 x A5 robot & 1 x Collector

We were averaging 8,800 litres per cow. Now we’re milking less cows, and our 305-day average is 12,199kgs per cow at 4.13% butterfat and 3.32% protein. The cows are healthy and content, and fertility has improved. Our calving interval is 365 days, and 75% of the herd is back in-calf within the first 150 days of lactation,” said Gary Liggett

Mark Lewis – Richhill

1 x Lely Juno, 2 x Astronaut A5, 1 x Discovery Scraper

For over 150 years, Mark Lewis’ family have worked the same ground on which the farm sits to this day. In August 2020, the farm converted from a suckler beef herd to a fully robotic dairy unit with 120 cows being milked by two Lely A5 robots. In February 2023, Mark decided to automate the business further by installing a Lely Juno and Discovery scraper to fine-tune his daily operations, making life easier.

Paul & Stuart Lyness - Richhill

2x A4, 2x Discovery 90, X1 Lely Vector

Since Lyness’ installed their Vector, they now have a predicted 305 day yield of 11,500kg at a feed rate of 0.37kg/litre. Current daily average yields are 38kgs, 3.3% protein and 3.9% fats. Their impressive feed efficiency of 1.7kg of milk from 1kg of dry matter fed highlights their commitment to precision feeding and producing top-quality forage.

Stephen and David Cargill - Antrim

Lely Vector

Maximising efficiency and productivity, while also being as self-sufficient as possible has always been a priority for Stephen and David Cargill. Their 150-cow herd of pedigree Holsteins averages 11,200 litres of milk at 4.1% butterfat and 3.18% protein with recent improvements contributing to the farm being announced as Supreme Champion of the Lakeland Dairies Milk Quality Awards in June 2023.
