"Lely have a fantastic range of automation, not just the milking robots, but robotic feeders, feed pushers and scrapers, everything they do is about consistency, saving labour and energy.
Hi, I’m Dan Gifford, I’ve worked at Lely Center Holsworthy since 2009, having gained an interest in robotics whilst working on the maintenance of six A3 milking robots on my wife’s family farm.
After joining Lely, I progressed from a SL1 to a SL2 service technician before becoming Service Manager in 2012 looking after the team of Engineers throughout Devon & Cornwall.
I became General Manager of the Lely Center in July 2021 and I have a firm 5-year plan; I want to increase the number of robots throughout the two counties to in excess of 400 robots and, as importantly, I want to ensure I have a dedicated and happy workforce alongside me who will be key to helping me achieve this progression.
Lely Center Holsworthy has been established since 2008, and we are one of the pioneers in Lely robotic milking, feeding and barn products in the UK. The Center has evolved over time to provide a complete design, sales, service and back up operation second to none, helping our customers achieve higher productivity and effectiveness on their farm.
We have a team of certified service technicians located throughout the Devon & Cornwall region which ensures a quick response time 365 days a year; they all have the same goal – to maintain each robot to the highest standard and keep failures to a minimum and to keep customer satisfaction high.
The service technicians are supported by a dedicated team which consist of Sales Specialists, a Compressor Engineer, Service Manager, Project Coordinator, Farm Management Support specialists, an Admin team, a Marketing Specialist and a Store & Stock control team along with a vast stock of spares. It’s a team effort, whether that be designing a barn layout or assisting the feed nutritionist or vet, we are all here to help every Lely customer achieve their goals.
We are building long term relationships with our customers! If you are not a customer yet, call us or click on the below to find out how we can help you."

David and Sarah Eva, who farm near Helston in Cornwall, have 4 young children aged 9, 7, 5 and 3 so the decision to automate was an easy one as it provided them with the promise of more flexibility and family time! 12 months on and the difference installing robots has made to the family is tangible, with David confirming that robots “were definitely the right decision for us as a family. I could never relax before; I was always clock watching and half my mind was on the fact that I needed to get back to the farm for evening milking. Life is more relaxed now”.
Ben Grylls farm 140- dairy cow herd in Cornwall averaging at 9200 litres per cow each year. They are currently being milked through Lely A4 Astronauts averaging 3.2 robot visits per cow per day.
Joost and Annemarie Spierings were so keen to achieve their dairy farming dream that they left their Dutch homeland, bought a Cornish farm, and have since installed milking robots with the view to protecting their business into the future.
