Marsh House Farm began its robotic milking journey in mid-June 2026, but the changes started well before the robots arrived.

Before installation, the team redesigned the shed layout, making the most of the available footprint and extending where needed to create the space required for robotic milking. Rather than starting again with a completely new building, the focus was on making better use of what was already there and investing where it would make the biggest difference.

The farm has since invested in four Lely Astronaut A5 milking robots, a Lely Juno automatic feed pusher and a Lely Discovery Collector manure collection system.

Now four months into their robotic milking journey, Marsh House has already seen an increase in milk volume, with cows currently averaging 30.1 litres per day.

That development is already shaping the next stage of the farm. The team is now working towards similar improvements in another shed, including the building that previously housed the parlour, creating further capacity for future expansion.

Marsh House is a strong example of how sound investment, thoughtful layout changes and automation can help a farm improve what it already has while creating room to grow.

The gates will open at 10am, giving you time to arrive, grab a drink and have a chat before the day gets underway.

Throughout the morning, there will be a number of different stations around the farm, led by Lely Center Longtown, Carrs Billington and Aspatria Farmers. Each station will focus on a different area of investment, giving you the chance to see the equipment in place, speak directly to the teams involved and ask questions as you go.

Food will be served around 12:30pm, with the day finishing at 2pm.

Come along, have a look around, speak to the different teams and see how Marsh House has used considered investment across the farm to make more of what they already had.

Collaboration

We were very pleased to be asked to collaborate on this open day with Carrs Billington and Aspatria Farmers.

Bringing local agricultural businesses together gives farmers the chance to see different areas of investment working side by side, share ideas and speak to the teams behind them.

It is a great example of local businesses working together to support the farming community and help farmers explore what could work on their own farms.
