A first for Wales
We are delighted to announce that in association with the Pembrokeshire Agricultural society, we will host a live milking exhibition at the Pembrokeshire Show from the 15th – 17th of August. It will be the first ever live milking event at an exhibition in Wales. Gareth Jones (area manager for Lely) commented: “we are delighted to give the project the go ahead and it has been in the planning stage for the last 6 months. The live milking demonstrations will no doubt be one of the main attractions at this year’s event. Dairy farmers and the general public will have the opportunity of experiencing firsthand how the whole system works, which will be a first for many.” 40 Holstein cows from a local farm will be milked at their leisure with a Lely Astronaut A4 robotic milking system throughout the show in a purpose built dairy unit. The Lely Astronaut robotic milking system recognises each cow individually giving them access to the robot 24/7 so they are milked when they choose. Over 200 pieces of data are taken each time, with all data recorded on the T4C (time for cows) management programme which is then presented in a dashboard format enabling the farmer to supply each cow with all her needs for optimal health, milk production and well-being. Over the three show days presentations will be given by Lely staff.
