Lely explores regenerative agriculture through collaboration with ReGeNL
To take sustainability in dairy farming to the next level, Lely has joined forces with ReGeNL – a Dutch consortium dedicated to regenerative agriculture. This approach supports healthier soils, increased biodiversity, and improved climate and water management, while also offering a future-proof business model for farmers.

Lely explores regenerative agriculture through collaboration with ReGeNL
ReGeNL brings together partners from across the agricultural value chain – including farmer cooperatives, knowledge institutes, financial institutions, and providers of agricultural technology and expertise. The joint ambition is to help at least 1,000 Dutch farmers adopt regenerative practices by 2030. Wageningen University & Research (WUR) provides scientific guidance for the programme’s research projects.
Lely’s contribution: two targeted research projects
As an innovation partner, Lely is exploring whether regenerative agriculture can also be a viable model for dairy farmers worldwide. Within ReGeNL, we are launching two research projects that align with our vision on the Farm of the Future, which focuses on improving environmental impact and strengthening the farmer’s earning potential.
Each project begins with a baseline measurement to assess the impact on biodiversity, climate, water, and soil. This includes monitoring indicators such as organic matter levels, water retention capacity, and soil biology – all of which are tracked throughout the initiative.
Successful kick-off with 42 dairy farmers
After reaching out to Lely dairy farmers to participate in one of two Lely projects, an information session was held in May. Following this event, 42 farmers have now signed up for the pilot project, in which they will take steps over the next four years toward more regenerative farming on their farms.
Following a two-day training in June, we will soon begin on-farm visits. During these visits, we will work with each farmer to develop an individual farm development and monitoring plan.
In this way, Lely is expanding its knowledge of regenerative agriculture and gaining valuable experience with the innovations and data needed to support farmers on their journey toward regenerative farming.
