It's playtime! Lely Luna is not only good for the health and skin of your cows, but it also encourages them to move. In this way it keeps them relaxed and calm with as a possible result more peace in the barn. Luna helps cows to relax and therefore there is less destructive behaviour or competition.

  • Safe and easy

    Safe and easy

Cow safety is maintained through overload protection. If the cow pushes too hard against the brush, the brush stops moving. As a result, Luna prevents painful or irritated skin. Luna can also be easily installed in different ways. It works just as well as a standalone installation affixed to a wall.

  • Long lifespan

Features

Luna, a gift for your cows

Thanks to its smart design the Lely Luna cow brush is driven by touch and rotates in the opposite direction once the cow pushes it. This ensures maximum comfort for the cow and a long lifetime of the brush. As the brush has two directions of rotation the bristles will keep their shape longer than those that have only one. In addition, electronic components are separated from the moving motor box. The Luna cow brush has spirally positioned bristles of variable thickness for maximum comfort and can easily be installed on a post or against the wall.

The protection plate is there to keep the outer bristles of the brush straight for a long time. This ensures longer and better brushing for the cows as well as a longer lifetime of the brush itself.

Luna bristles are black, and red. Black bristles are thinner than red ones and once a cow is grooming, a rotating brush with a mix of thinner and thicker bristles provides the cow with a rich brushing experience. It helps to ensure that old hair, dust and parasites are cleaned from cows' skin, that itchy spots are removed and that cows are more relaxed.

Most of the brushed areas for the cows are head, back and tail. A horizontal brush is a great solution since it is focusing on these hard-to-reach places. Brushing the side is less important because the cow can reach it with her tongue or tail. As observed, cows enjoy being brushed beneath their tails, by putting the tail over the brush. Such a brushing experience is less likely possible with swinging or vertical brushes.

The small rubber blocks under the electronic box stop the brush swing at 110 degrees. In this way cables and their connection are protected for a longer lifetime of these components.

Frequently asked questions

What dairy farmers ask about cow brushes

An automatic electric cow brush helps improve cow welfare by encouraging natural grooming behaviour. Regular brushing supports skin and coat health, reduces stress, and can contribute to better cow comfort and overall herd wellbeing. A flexible cow brush, such as the Lely Luna, adapts to the cow's movements for a safe and comfortable brushing experience.

The capacity of a cow brush depends on factors such as herd size, barn layout, and how often cows use the brush. A single automatic cow brush can generally serve a large group of cows, provided it is installed in the right location. For larger herds or barns with multiple walking routes, installing additional brushes can improve accessibility and reduce waiting times.

An electric cow brush is an automated grooming system that rotates when activated by the cow. It allows cows to groom themselves whenever they want, helping to remove dirt, loose hair, and parasites while stimulating blood circulation. Compared to a manual or fixed cow brush, an electric brush provides a more comfortable and effective grooming experience.

A flexible cow brush moves with the cow's body, providing consistent contact while reducing pressure and improving comfort. A fixed cow brush remains in one position, meaning cows must adapt their movements to the brush. Flexible brushes generally offer a better grooming experience and can encourage more frequent use, contributing to improved cow welfare.

The price of a cow brush depends on the type of brush, features, durability, and installation requirements. While a used cow brush may have a lower purchase price, it is important to consider maintenance, wear of components, reliability, and expected lifespan. Investing in a high-quality automatic cow brush can provide long-term value through improved cow comfort and reduced maintenance.

For the best results, a cow brush should be placed in an area where cows naturally pass, such as near the feed fence, water trough, or walking routes. Avoid placing the brush where it may obstruct cow traffic or create bottlenecks. The right location helps maximize cow brush capacity by ensuring easy access for all cows throughout the day.

Brushing is a natural behaviour that helps cows remove dirt, loose hair, and itchy skin while improving comfort. An automatic electric cow brush also stimulates blood circulation and allows cows to groom hard-to-reach areas such as the neck, back, and tail head. Because cows can use the brush whenever they choose, it supports natural behaviour and contributes to improved welfare.

An automatic cow brush is designed for reliable operation with limited maintenance. However, regular inspection of key cow brush parts, such as the brush segments, drive mechanism, bearings, and safety system, helps ensure optimal performance and a long service life. Keeping these components in good condition reduces downtime and allows cows to enjoy the brush safely every day.
